Royal Clair Miles, age 80, returned home on March 12th, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family as they stood vigil over him with great tenderness while the angels gently lifted his spirit into the heavenly hands of our Savior. Clair was born on September 11, 1933, to loving parents, Royal Albert Miles and Eva Taylor. He was blessed with a majestic presence. He loved and was loved by everyone he ever met. It was often said of him “he never met a stranger”. He grew up in Preston Idaho wherehis parents taught him the value of working hard and doing the job right the first time, which he applied throughout his life.
He graduated from Preston High School. Clair was very well liked due in large part to his friendly and outgoing personality. Clair spent over 40 years of his career working for Western States Caterpillar, rising from the ranks of mechanic and retiring from the office of CEO and President.
He met Carol Harker, the love of his life. On February 27, 1957, he took her to the Idaho Falls Temple where they married and received the promise of being eternal companions. Most of their time was spent in theTreasure Valley area where they raised their beautiful daughters.
Clair served his Lord and Savior humbly his entire life. As a young man he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission. He served as Bishop, as well as a Stake President in the Boise West and Central Stakes. While serving as Stake President he had the privilege of overseeing the building of a number of Stake Centers, and most notably the opening of the Boise Temple. In 1994 he took his bride to Tulsa OK where he served as the Mission President for three wonderful years. He faithfully attended the temple and was called to serve for many years as an ordinance worker and a sealer. All who came in contact with Clair had the opportunity to feel of the unconditional love he conveyed for each of them. He never said an unkind word and loved others the way the Savior did, without hesitation.
Clair was privileged and blessed with the care of six wonderful daughters who he cherished and adored. He was a constant example of love and guidance, and each child knew that they were and are blessed to be a member of an eternal family. His grandchildren were a constant source of admiration; they too were blessed with his never-ending love as he would constantly embrace them and share nose kisses at every opportunity.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Judy Ann and his infant daughter Lori Ann. He is survived by his wife, Carol Harker; his siblings, Maxine (Miles) Wareing, Randy Miles, and Jan Miles, as well as his five daughters and their husbands: Reggie & Becky Sellers, Arlin & Susan Jones, Jay and Stacey Simmons, Todd and Cindy Cook, Kevin and Cathie Rogers; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
His final days were spent in the care of a wonderful and gentle group of care providers at Ivy Place, and the family will be eternally grateful for the tender care they provided our loving husband, father and grandfather. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the support of their friends and family.
Friends and family may pay their respects at S. Locust Grove and Overland bldg. 1920 S. Locust Grove, Sunday, March 16th from 6-8pm, or attend services at the Cole Rd Chapel (next to the temple) 1111 S. Cole Rd, Monday, March 17th. A viewing will be held from 10-11am, with services at 11:00am. Internment, Meridian City Cemetery.
Clair, we will miss you more than we can ever say, but we are comforted in the knowledge that we will be together again. We will honor your legacy by being joyful in our lives and serving others with unconditional love.
