Kelley Weigel

–

Boise, Idaho

Kelley Lloyd Weigel, 62 of Boise, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2023. He was born on August 18, 1961, in Jerome, Idaho, the son of Leon Weigel and Patricia Wilson.

Kelley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He grew up mostly as an only child longing for family. Family was his world, and he cherished every member, which included his two dogs Winston and Bruno. Kelley also made and met friends easily and had many personal relationships lasting decades.

Kelley attended primary and secondary education in Jerome, Idaho, graduating from Jerome High School. He also briefly attended Lowell Scott Middle School in Boise, Idaho, near which ironically, he and his wife Cindy would later build their dream home and raise their two children. Kelley graduated from Jerome High School in 1980 and credited his late stepmother, Mary Weigel, for pushing him through those difficult years. He dedicated almost 22 years of his career as a Hardwood Flooring Manager at Dillabaugh’s Flooring America in Boise, Idaho, where he was known for “telling it like it is” and later humbling himself once he did so.

In his free time, Kelley enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and spending quality time playing games with his family. Kelley was no stranger to competition or games of strategy, often besting people at their own games with little effort. He was easily bored with the simple games, thriving on those that required intense strategy and was known in some circles as “the best cribbage player ever.” On those rare occasions that Cindy or other family members would beat him, Kelley would take credit for having taught them all too well. Kelley and Cindy were taught to play Pinochle by Cindy’s grandma, Grace, in the early years of their marriage. Kelley loved how competitive Grace was and was proud of his ability to take the win by frequently “shooting the moon.” Kelley cherished playing games and those moments created lasting memories with his loved ones.

Kelley loved sports and was an avid Boise State Bronco fan. He was proud of being a football season ticket holder for over a decade, a reward to himself for having quit smoking. Kelley went to two Fiesta Bowl Championship games in Arizona and volunteered his personal time coaching little league baseball and Boise Optimist Youth Football. When not coaching he was a loyal spectator at his children’s athletic events, often still trying to coach from the sidelines or stands.

Kelley loved to cook. He mastered the Traeger grill and most recently the Blackstone griddle. Kelley used his talents for cooking to frequently lure his family and friends to social events. He didn’t feel he had eaten a healthy meal unless it included meat and potatoes, and we all struggled with our waistlines as a result. Kelley became “Camp Chef” on camping and hunting trips and though it was a lot of work, he was proud of the title. Kelley loved to do special things for others, serving as President of the local Bass Fishing Federation and participating in the “Make a Wish Foundation” helping children achieve their dreams by taking them fishing.

Kelley is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Wilson and father, Leon Weigel. He leaves behind his spouse of 38 years, Cindy Weigel, ”the love of his life”, a son, Matt Weigel, a daughter, Morgan (Mason) Atterberry, and two grandsons: Jackson Weigel and Kannon Atterberry. Kelley is also survived by sister-in-law Nancy (David) Smyth, brother-in-law Devin (Jeannette) Breshears, and sister-in-law Miya (Mike) Barnes as well as many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him. He was especially close to his uncle Craig Halverson, and stepsister Dianne (Steve) Tomkinson.

Kelley Lloyd Weigel will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hard work, his competitive nature, and his love for outdoor activities. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 27th from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. at Bridgepoint Church, located at 2530 S Broadway Ave, Boise, ID 83706
