Donald Hankey

–

Boise, Idaho

Donald Charles Hankey, or as most knew him, Don, passed peacefully on July 23, 2024, at his residence in Boise, Idaho. Born in Chicago, IL, on March 7, 1942, to parents Robert Hankey and Katheryn Germaine, he was a man whose life was marked by hard work, joy, a deep love for his family, and many cherished cats and dogs.

Don was a funny, loving, loyal, and dedicated man. He had a knack for turning even the most trivial moments into lasting memories, whether he was sharing a laugh over a fishing trip gone wrong or cheering on his favorite sports teams (BSU, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears). He was a dedicated service manager at Culligan Water for many years before he retired, and his dedication extended beyond his work to his home and family. He was always the first to lend a hand when needed and took immense pride and joy in maintaining a pristine lawn. No one could forget the sight of Don basking in the warm sun with a radiant smile on his face as he surveyed his well-kept domain.

Don, or Papa as his grandchildren affectionately called him, was a cornerstone of our family. His love for us was unending. He lived by the Christian verse, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). And that he did. He loved deeply and unconditionally, creating a legacy of love that will continue to echo in our hearts forever.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hankey and Katheryn Germaine. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn, his three children, Shelley (Valentin) Draghici, Debbie (JR) Schofield, Scott (Alexis) Hankey, his seven grandchildren Alex, Abby, Ashlynn, Madi, Brynlee, Cameron, and Brayden, as well as his extended family Petre and Wendi Draghici. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him.

In the spirit of celebration of Don's life, we invite you to share your favorite memories, stories, and pictures of Donald on his memorial page. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the joy that he brought into our lives.
