Michael (Mike) D. Whiffen of Boise, Idaho passed away on January 17, 2016 at the age of 53 years old. He came home and was attended by his family and hospice after a brief battle with Hairy Cell Leukemia and other complications associated with the disease and treatment.
Mike was born in Monterey Park California in 1962. He was preceded in death by his father Gerald Whiffen. He is survived by his wife Patti Whiffen, daughter Abby Whiffen, puppy Sadie Whiffen, of Boise, Idaho, Mother Helene Whiffen, Brothers Richard and Ronald Whiffen and Sister Shelly Whiffen, of DuBois, Nebraska, along with their families.
Mike found his work and hobby early in his life with his passion for all things with an engine. He was a car, boat, motorcycle, motor home and diesel mechanic for the majority of his life. He remembered everything he ever learned about vehicles and would answer questions over the phone about the most obscure issues. He loved restoring classic cars and while living in California helped many car enthusiasts rebuild their fantasy projects. He moved to Boise, Idaho in 1994 excited to explore a new terrain and loved taking care of his home and the shop that was his pride and joy. After retiring from “turning wrenches” he returned to another skill that he excelled at, driving truck. He was driving a local route for PDM Steel and truly enjoyed his co-workers and getting to know the people and companies on his routes.
Mike always had a smile, a hand and a tool to lend. Friends, family and neighbors knew he would drop everything to help them at any time. He loved and was loved deeply by his family and friends. He loved to camp, fish, BBQ, play games with friends and enjoyed being a “foodie” with Patti. Some of his favorite times were trying new foods in new places. His dream was to travel after Abby had completed school and that dream became a reality last March when he and Patti went to the big island of Hawaii. He thought he had found heaven in the beauty and lifestyle there.
A casual Hawaiian style celebration of his life will be held at First United Presbyterian Church 400 Lake Lowell Avenue Nampa, Idaho on Saturday February 6, 2016 at 4 pm. Mike asked that his ashes be spread privately by his family. A memorial fund has been set up to help with expenses: https://www.youcaring.com/mike-whiffen-502618
