Loren Eugene Malone (“LEM” to his family and friends), age 69, long-time
McCall resident, passed away on December 30, 20l6, at his home, with his wife
Kathy at his side. He was born on March 29, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dean
and Ann Malone. He grew up in Dallas Center, Iowa, where he graduated from
high school in 1965. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Navy. A
committed patriot, LEM retired as a Navy Senior Chief Radioman after 25 years of
service to his country. In retirement, he served as an active member of the local
American Legion and was proud to encourage his step-son Matthew to pursue an
outstanding career in the Navy.
While stationed in San Diego, LEM met a redhaired Idaho school counselor
named Kathleen. They courted, married and enjoyed each other’s companionship
for over 30 years. LEM never let a day go by without telling his wife he loved her.
As his friends and family all attest, LEM was a loyal, kind-hearted, great man and
good friend with a genial sense of humor and the ability to tell a great story. He
loved that all of his family, including his father and brother, joined him in McCall
last summer for a great reunion.
LEM took great pride in the McCall home he built for Kathy and him, with lots of
room for family and visitors. Other happy times were enjoying the sunsets and
playing cribbage with Kathy on Grandma Eula Eason’s deck overlooking the lake.
He and Kathy were devoted Boise State Bronco fans and season ticket holders who
rarely missed a football game.
In addition to his passion for family and military service, LEM loved the outdoors
and the opportunities the McCall area afforded him as an avid camper, hunter,
fisherman and golfer.
LEM is survived by his wife Kathleen Eason Malone; father Dean Malone;
brother Gordon Malone; daughters Angela Hensley and Barbara LaPlume; step-son
Matthew Anderson and wife Leah Anne; and grandchildren Adam and Claire
Duprez, Dylan Duprez, Hannah Duprez, Cameron Malone, Tristan LaPlume,
Maddy Malone, Anna Kate Anderson and Paul Anderson. He was preceded in
death by his mother Ann Malone.
A celebration of life will take place at 4:00 pm on May 20, 2017 at Ponderosa State Park in McCall Idaho.
In lieu of flowers the family recommends a donation to the charity
