John Benjamin “Jack” Braucht, age 77, passed away on the afternoon of March 23, 2018 in Yuma, Arizona. He was a resident of Yuma a few winter months and Meridian, ID the rest of the year to live near family. He had been ill with COPD for 10 years or more.
Jack is the eldest son of Eugene Freeman Braucht and Marie Arabella Katherman. He was born June 27, 1940 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. That summer he won the cutest baby contest in the Iowa State Fair. When he was still young, his family moved to Salem, Oregon where Jack attended school and graduated from North Salem High School in 1958. After graduation, Jack served his country enlisting in the Army Reserves.
While in the Army Reserves, he worked for West Coast Airlines. He met his wife Alice working at the same airlines as a flight attendant. They had 2 daughters together, Heidi and Heather. Jack worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road for 10 years as a brake man, then later as railroad Engineer driving trains. Upon retiring from the Railroad, he started his own business naming it, “Master Marketing” selling products at shows and fairs in the 7 western states. He loved selling, working with and meeting new people. Any stranger was his friend and not a stranger for long. He enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, gold prospecting and sailing. He loved classic cars, politics, baseball, ice cream and music. Jack will lovingly be remembered for his kind heart and sense of humor.
A viewing will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at The L.D.S. church located at 190 S. Locust Grove Rd, Meridian, ID, 83642. Funeral services to follow at 1. Interment will be at 3pm at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 10100 N Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise, ID 83714.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Jack is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Orville) Thompson of Eagle, ID and Heather (Tyler) Forbush of Meridian, ID; Six grandchildren Sarah, Emma, Owen and Grace Thompson and Hannah “Sam” Blake and Mary (Chase) Weaver; Two brothers, Gary and Don Braucht of Salem, OR. He was Uncle to Julie (Micah) Persons of Salem, OR and Scott Braucht of Portland, OR and his many friends.
