Helen was born September 12, 1929 in Foyil, Oklahoma. At the young age of 15, she found her true love and partner Jim Grist. They started their married life together in Twin Falls, Idaho and later moved to the Boise area. While raising three sons and a daughter – Jimmie, Gary, Mark and Linda, there was never a dull moment or lack of love. Helen was a stay-at-home full-time mother who could graciously set the table with a superb meal at a moments notice, paint a professional-quality oil or watercolor, compose poetry, tend a large garden, not to mention yearly family activities including camping trips or salmon fishing; even a few trips to Hawaii. Besides enjoying their children and grandchildren, she and Jim had dogs, cats, horses and even parrots (a blue and gold macaw named Ollie and a peach-colored cockatoo named ChaCha). After becoming widowed in 1996, she still loved life and adventure, taking advantage of traveling to the coast or Redwoods with her dear other widowed sisterly friends, site-seeing, shopping and filling every speck of empty trunk space with memorable finds from antique stores and what-have-you along the way. Her interests, experiences and life stories were never dull; her graciousness and humor were always a delight! Because Helen was an active student of the Bible, baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1951 and truly believed we are living in the prophesied ‘last days’, her hope was clear and bright. She never stopped looking forward to the glorious future ahead for survivors and the promised resurrection of dead loved ones. Her worship and sharing Bible truths with all she could was the center and focus of her life. Right up until a few weeks prior to her death, she was active in writing letters to neighbors, inviting them to learn about her God Jehovah and the trustworthy promises recorded in his Word. She stayed busy attending Christian meetings via Zoom (due to the pandemic). Much more could be said about Helen and all her wonderful talents and attributes. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. We can be encouraged by her strong hope of being remembered by God and resurrected to life in a restored paradise earth in his due time. One of her favorite scriptures was Luke 20:38 where Jesus was speaking of faithful men of old who had already died and were already in God’s memory. Speaking of his Heavenly Father, he said “He is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him.” This promise she loved is the thing that keeps us strong.

Love My Aunt Helen ! Can,t wait to see her again soon and get to know her better ❤️
My Aunt Helen will be missed by many. She and her husband Jim took me in when I had no were to go, for several weeks, in around 1959-1960. I always had a great meals and lots of love there.Sometimes I wish I could stay as thin as Aunt Helen was . I do remember all the animals in their household. To my cousins, Jimmie, Gary, Linda & Mark, my deepest sympathies for your lost. And to their spouses as well. I’m so happy that she didn’t have to spend any time in a nursing home, thanks to my cousin Linda and her husband Dick, and the support of the family.

a gentle loving person that will be missed until she awakes with jim growing more flowers. Maybe we can go camping again.
From the moment I met Hellen, I loved her. I only wish I had gotten to know her sooner. I so look forward to the New World when I will be able to know her as Jehovah intended. She was a wonderful example of a faithful servant of Jehovah. . The endurance she displayed was remarkable and I know that she was dearly loved by Jehovah and she is missed. She is one that He can truly say “ He will have a longing for the work of his hands.” My heart goes out to Dick and Linda who cared for her so unrelentingly. She was very fortunate to have such a loving family. All my love…

Dan and I loved Helen and her daughter and son in law. Wonderful loving people. We loved Helen’s sense of humor and we will miss her right up to seeing her again in the future. Really look forward to doing activities with her.
So so many cherished memories of Mom. She endured to the end of her life through many trials and ill health, always with joy and thankfulness for strength not her own. Her faith, actions and kind graciousness was remarkable and worthy of remembrance.
Helen touched so many lives in the very best way;we are grateful that we were blessed to be a part of her spiritual family.
Helen was a beautiful, kind and loving person. She was truly a person that if you knew her you loved her. She remained faithful to Jehovah throughout her days. She had sparkles in her eyes. A one of a kind person. We will see her again in Jehovah’s restored earth.
Dear Jimmy, Gary, Linda & Mark,
Please know how sorry I am for the loss of your dear Mom. Even when our dear ones are up in years, and their death is not unexpected, it is still difficult. When I think of your Mom, one word that comes to my mind is “gracious”. What a gracious and beautiful soul. So talented, and yet so humble. She will be greatly missed not only by you, but by many others who loved her.
For me, Helen was my second mother. She accepted me into the family early on. Before marrying her daughter, I was included in many personal gatherings, whether it be Christian meetings, camping, fishing, hunting, picnics, you name it! She stood out in an especially talented manner as a loyal, gracious, and caring person. Although she’s missed, it will be so special to welcome her back after our grand God Jehovah brings her back to life in his promised restored earthly paradise. Small family graveside services are scheduled.
Helen was such a fine example of faith and endurance. It was a pleasure to have known her. She was always smiling and we loved the sparkle in her eyes! This is just a short interruption of her life while she is sleeping and in Jehovah’s memory. Can’t wait to be with her in the new system and get to know her even better. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to Linda, Dick and family.
I enjoyed knowing Helen, she was alway happy and Pleasant. I’m looking forward to know her better in the paradise earth. Her spiritual strengths and faithfulness encourages all of us.
My Dear traveling friends are gone now to rest for a while.
Helen Shirley,Fern and myself travel from Seattle to the Redwoods and every little trail in between.
At the end of each day we thanked Jehovah for our safe travel and than set up the scrabble board for the night. Some nights we played until early PM.
It is nice to have such good memories of beautiful sisters which soon we will have them all back in Jehovahs New World
For my memories of Helen Grist, my beautiful and faithful sister in law and sister in the truth. She was so kind and loving to me when I became part of the family by marrying her younger brother Billy Joe. She was like an older sister through all the years since. I can only say I’m glad I got to know her and the family she and Jim raised. Linda and Dick did a wonderful job in caring for her in the last years. May Jehovah bless them in dealing with their loss. I loved and will miss my aunt Helen very much until I see her again in the resurrection.
