Glendowyn Winkleblack passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2021 with her family by her side. Glendowyn was born in 1928 into a family of 12 other brothers and sisters at Sheridan Wyoming.
Glendowyn married Franklin Velvick in 1947. They had five children, Franklin Jr, Penelope (Penny), Tom, Bill and Terry. Franklin Jr passed away very young.Franklin senior was a Marine during World War II and was a member of the forgotten marine Battalion (https://www.forgottenbattalion.com/) that fought on Saipan, Tarawa, Guadacanal, Iwo Jima, and was wounded in the war.
Franklin passed away in 1955 as a complication from those wounds.Glendowyn married Laddie Winkleblack a couple years later. They had three children together, Laddie, Cheryl and Jean. Her daughter Jean passed away October 23rd, 2021. Currently there are 6 surviving children, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Glendowyn loved her children and grandchildren and was fiercely protective of them. She spent most of her life raising her children and then helping to take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She did have a fun side.
One time she and her sister Appie went to Arizona, without their husbands to see her son Tom and we’re acting like teenagers again. A fond memory is Glendowyn pushing her sister Appie in a grocery cart and the both of them giggling like schoolgirls. In her later years, Penny introduced Glendowyn to slot machines. They took a trip to Montana and said they hit most of the slots there.
Services are for family only at her request. Her ashes along with the ashes of her favorite dog are going to Arizona to be spread in the desert as she wanted. She will be greatly missed.
