George Everett Johnston, 86, of Boise, passed away peacefully in his home, on Thursday, November 26, 2020.
George was born September 1, 1934, in Gooding, Idaho to Dewy Johnston and Grace Margeson (Johnston). George was raised in Idaho but later moved to Tacoma, Washington where he attended High School. In 1952, after George graduated High School, he joined the Air Force. During his military service George proudly served as the youngest flight engineer ever on a Boeing B50. George was a Technical Sergeant during his service and served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. George married the love of his life, Margaret Busteed (Johnston) on May 6, 1955. Together, with their four children, they were able to live in many areas of the world; Philippines, Japan, Hawaii etc. George was humble and always put those he loved before himself. When the Air Force wanted to make him a pilot George graciously turned down his dreams to be able to stay nearby and take care of his wife, who, at the time, was pregnant with their first child. Family was everything to George.
After 21 years of service, George retired from the military and moved to Boise, Idaho where he began his career as a diesel mechanic at Cummins International. George was a skilled fisherman and accomplished trumpet player. His love for the outdoors and good jazz music ran deep but was nothing compared to the love he had for his family. George loved nothing more than surrounding himself with loved ones and a plate of delicious food.
George is preceded in death by his dad, Dewy Johnston; mom, Grace Johnston; younger brothers, Merle “Bubs” and Kenny Johnston; wife, Margaret Johnston; and daughter, Patti Johnston.
George leaves a legacy behind of his three surviving children: Jeri (Jeff) Glynn, Susie Peppard, George “Slicky” Johnston Jr.; his eight grandchildren: Kasha (Aaron) Holverson, Levi (Hollie) Glynn, Zach (Jordann) Glynn, Jamie (Ryan) Kingston, Shayna (Michael) Draper, Kristi (Adam) Peppard, Brittney (Anthony) White, and Amy Johnston; as well as his 21 great grandchildren. May we all live as George lived, humble, selfless, and valuing time with family above everything else.
