Dora B. Cox, 86 went to be with our Lord on Wednesday March 23, 2016 at 4:15 p.m.
Dora was born December 4, 1929, in Brady, Texas; the daughter of Jeff Finch and Sudie Jones Finch. Dora grew up in Cameron and Willacy Counties in South Texas. She attended and graduated from Lyford, TX High School in 1949, where she excelled in sports and band. She served as Drum Majorette in her senior year. On July 2, 1949, Dora married her one and only love, Lonnie Sherwood.
Dora had a beautiful voice and was called on often to sing at special events in the community. She was a member of the Baptist Church and provided the special music quite often. Her favorite activities included: Making and sending greeting cards; collecting recipes; and she authored three cookbooks. According to her grandsons she was “the best cook in town.”
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Sudie Finch, four brothers: Arvil, Jack, Pete, and George Finch, and sister, Eunice Walton.
Dora is sruvived by her husband of almost 67 years, Lonnie Sherwood Cox, her sister Ruth Martin of Wisconsin, her son Dale Cox and wife Laurel, her daughter Lisa Harris, four grandsons, four great-grandsons, many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and many good friends.
Memorial Service date and time are to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Dora’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
